Meeker, Colorado, is a community rich in arts and cultural activities that bring residents together and celebrate local talent. From theater productions to art classes and community festivals, there’s always something happening to engage and inspire.
Theater Productions
The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) offers annual theater productions for both youth and adults. The Youth Theater program provides children aged 7-13 the opportunity to participate in musical theater, fostering leadership skills and teamwork. Auditions are held annually, and rehearsals lead up to performances that showcase the hard work and dedication of these young actors. For teens and adults, the Community Theater program presents productions every summer, inviting community members to audition and take part in bringing stories to life on stage. These programs not only entertain but also strengthen community bonds through shared creative experiences.
Visual Arts
MACC also offers summer art classes for children in 2nd grade and up. These classes cover a variety of projects and techniques, providing young artists with the opportunity to explore their creativity under the guidance of experienced instructors. Additionally, community members interested in set design for theater productions can volunteer their skills, contributing to the visual storytelling of local performances.
Community Festivals
Meeker hosts several annual festivals that celebrate its unique culture and heritage. The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials, held every September, is a five-day event featuring world-class sheepdog herding competitions, an international art show, educational programs, and a variety of cultural demonstrations. This event intertwines competition with education and community engagement, offering something for everyone. Another highlight is the Meekerpalooza Series, which brings downtown Meeker to life with live music, a beer garden, and activities for all ages. Hosted by the ERBM Recreation & Park District, Uplift Meeker, Meeker Chamber of Commerce, and MACC, this series fosters community spirit and showcases local talent.
Get Involved
For those looking to contribute to Meeker’s arts and cultural scene, MACC welcomes volunteers to assist with theater productions, events, and other programs. Monthly meetings are open to the public, providing a platform for community members to share ideas and get involved. Whether you’re interested in performing, visual arts, or event planning, there are numerous opportunities to participate and make a difference.
Meeker’s commitment to the arts enriches the community, offering residents and visitors alike a chance to experience and engage with a vibrant cultural landscape. By supporting and participating in these programs and events, we continue to foster a creative and connected community.
